Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance

Location

Amelia Island, FL

When

Annual — Third Weekend of March

THE EVENT

The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is one of the world's premier automotive events — a gathering of the rarest, most historically significant motorcars in existence, judged on the grass of the Golf Club of Amelia Island. It draws collectors, historians, and the kind of people who understand that a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa is not a car. It is a document.

WHY WE ARE HERE

The clients who attend Amelia Island are not automobile enthusiasts. They are custodians. They understand provenance, condition, and the difference between something that was built correctly and something that was built quickly. These are AETHEL's people — individuals who have spent decades learning to recognize quality and who have no patience for its imitation.

A RECORD — THE FOUNDER

"He was not there to be seen. He was there because the 1963 Aston Martin DB5 on the lawn was the same color as the first coat he ever had made — a deep British racing green that took three fittings to get right. He walked the field alone, early, before the crowds arrived. Someone noticed the coat. They asked where it was from. He said: a maker in Scotland. They asked for a card. He said he didn't carry them. He said: if you find me again, I'll tell you more."

The founder's identity is known only to the Founding 12. What follows is the record of what was said before it was done.
