Frieze New York is the American edition of one of the world's most important contemporary art fairs — a gathering of galleries, collectors, and institutions on Randall's Island that draws the full spectrum of the New York art world and its international visitors. It is more accessible than Art Basel, more energetic, and for that reason, a different kind of conversation.
WHY WE ARE HERE
The Frieze New York client is often younger than the Art Basel client — or at least, younger in their collecting. They are building their eye, building their collection, building their understanding of what quality means across different disciplines. AETHEL meets them at exactly this moment.
A RECORD — THE FOUNDER
"He was there with a friend who was showing work. He spent most of the day at her booth, not because he was helping, but because he wanted to watch how people looked at the work. He noticed that the people who spent the most time looking were not always the people who bought. And the people who bought quickly were not always the people who understood. He filed this away. It was useful."
